jeepers, creepers

Prior to starting a blog, myself and I shared an internal conversation (what else would it be) about the pros and cons of exposing my family to potential strangers. Considering that most strangers are harmless and that millions of people blog about their families, I decided to forge ahead with my storytelling.

Yesterday, I received a comment from someone unknown to me (bound to happen sooner or later). Although the comment was not necessarily inappropriate, Stephen and I agreed it was strange coming from an unknown person. Still thinking about this unknown person, I decided to check my visitor stats this morning. You will never guess what I discovered—at least two people have accessed my blog via two different porn sites in the last week!

I know, it's not really my target audience. Of course, I have no way of knowing if the unknown person found me through a porn site, but I still decided not to publish the comment. If anything, there is some consolation in knowing that the porn sites, by the looks of the domain names, are not for people specifically seeking children. They are probably just for people seeking twins or skin. Whoops—I guess my clever domain name (through a different lens) is somewhat pornographic!

Hopefully I sound calm and collected because I was in a tizzy this morning. I was ready to call it quits! I recognize that once I post an image, I no longer have control over who views that image. All the same, it is difficult to see a porn site actually linked to your children, even if is accidental. I have nothing against the adult entertainment industry, but I have enlisted help to minimize my twin and my skin from being found through that medium.

Of course, this discussion is nothing new to world of blogging. I found some interesting conversations about posting photos of your children online. But since it is now on my mind, I welcome any words of wisdom, personal insight, or expert advice. Please comment.
