redemption song

1:10 PM

It was oh so sweet!

We were sitting around the table eating dinner on the deck. Now, I have to give a little back story. Wyatt has been complaining that his penis hurts all week. Stephen thinks he is making it up. They just had their five-year old check up and everything was fine. I agree with Stephen completely. I don't think anything is wrong. I think he needs some attention.

However, when it comes to private parts I want to do everything right. I want to ask the right questions, give the right answers, buy the right books, provide the right amount of parental guidance at the right time. Of course, this is impossible. But it doesn't stop me from trying. And not having a penis of my own, I don't want to discount the possibility that is does hurt and I am just being insensitive.

And so I continue to ask Wyatt at the end of every day if his penis still hurts. And it does. It hurts in a that way that let's us know that he just remembered that it hurts and he is now unable to move and must use baby talk to convey his thoughts and feelings.

Tonight, when I asked, Stephen rolled his eyes.

Nothing is wrong with him, Hannah.

I know, but we have to ask and make sure.

Cut to Henry: Whatever Dad. You don't know anything about doctoring.

Bada Bing! Can I even believe my ears? Did Henry just say that Stephen doesn't know anything about doctoring? Hells yeah! Hells yeah, Stephen is not the king of all things. He may know about cooking, and teaching, and working, and fixing, but he doesn't know jack about doctoring!

I am the winner--even if Henry thinks Stephen is smarter than I am and my children have no idea what I do each day. At least they know that Stephen doesn't know everything about everything.
