little house
11:26 PMThe boys and I just finished reading the first book in the Little House series, Little House in the Big Woods. This is a big deal to me for two reasons. One, this is our first time reading a chapter book in its entirety. And two, I love these books. Love them!
It's my very own childhood collection that we are reading. The books have been traveling with Tom and Dana from house to house, just waiting for this moment. This opportunity to share something loved with my own children. So over Father's Day weekend, I made Tom rifle through numerous boxes in the garage to find them.
It's a crappy picture, but there they are, on their way to a new home.

And there we are, reading the last chapter on Sunday night.

I am not sure if Henry and Wyatt truly enjoy reading them with me. They often seem distracted and sometimes even get up to use the bathroom, find a toy, or get a drink of water. And the book was actually a challenge to read at times. The sentence structure is all wacky hijacky. I occasionally had to improvise. And I put a lot of emphasis on the parts that involved guns or scary animals in hopes of keeping them interested.
But they said the liked the first book and want to continuing reading the series. So I guess it's on to book number two: Little House on the Prairie. Oh happy day. Oh childhood relived.

Hannah,
ReplyDeleteI too loved the Little House books and that is why I got you the boxed set. It is so great that you are carrying on a family tradition. Especially since most people think the Little House books are only for girls and would never think of reading them to boys. Hooray for you and those lucky boys! Love Mom
Stephanie gave me a link to your blog and I have been enjoying it for a week or so, even though I feel kind of like a creepy stalker because I don't really know you, and have been thinking of commenting and not just stalking........ finally had to speak when you posted about Little House. I remember reading chapter books with my kids that I loved when I was young and isn't it just the best ever?
ReplyDeleteYour blog is really good. I like the pictures, but your writing is even better. And I like that you post every day.
Thanks, Mom. Those boys are pretty damn lucky, if I do say so myself!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely compliments. No need to worry about stalking. I follow blogs written by people I've never even met. That's part of the fun.
