body art

11:12 PM

This was originally meant to be a post about Tour de Fat. Instead, it's about body art--eventually.

We went to Tour de Fat for the the third time on Saturday. We've gone once by ourselves and once with the boys. This was the first year Stephen and I dressed up. Wyatt went as a skeleton, Henry went as Batman, and Stephen and I just dressed strangely.

And I bought face paint.

Both Tia D and Dylan came. Lars came, too. It was a first for Tia D and Lars. And we met up with lots of friends. Tour de Fat might be a beer garden with a bike parade, but it's also a family event. It's the kind of place you bring your kids to. They've got games and entertainment.

Henry and Wyatt rode their bikes for the first time this year. Everyone was pretty impressed. And they should have been. It was quite a feat--two whole miles on a bike!

After the bike parade we found the only bit of shade that wasn't also littered with goose poop and set up camp for the afternoon. We feasted on potato chips, trail mix and grapes. We watched the 2008 World Champion and two-time Genius Book of World Records Yo-Yo winner. And of course, we drank beer. New Belgium beer.

And now comes the part about body art. Being the kind and thoughtful woman that I am, I brought the face paint with us to the park. I thought that maybe all the kids would like to paint their faces. I try to be inclusive.

Well, all the kids did want to paint their faces. They also wanted to paint their bodies. And then they wanted to paint each other. And then they wanted to paint the grownups. And then the grownups wanted to paint each other. And then suddenly we were all covered in face paint.

And then Henry and Lars started tagging each other.

Toward the end of the afternoon, I realized that my punk ass little brother had escaped the body painting fun. I took care of that. Remember, I try to be inclusive. I am both a good mom and a good sister.

Lately I've noticed that I've been ending my posts with a comment about a good day or time well spent. I don't want to be cliche or repetitive, but it was a good day. And it was time well spent with friends and family. We know good people and we enjoy their company. We also enjoy bikes, beer and face paint. How 'bout you!?
