a christmas tradition, part 1
8:24 AMI am attempting to create some holiday traditions this year. So far, our holiday activities have changed with each year but there is something about this year that makes me want to establish rituals and memories that are special to our little family of four. Maybe it’s because the boys are old enough build lasting memories. Maybe it’s because they are old enough to actually participate in activities. Maybe it’s because there are only a few precious years left before they are too old to believe in the magic of Christmas.
Whatever the reason may be, I find myself compelled to create family traditions. I have come up with two, the first of those being a trip to the forest to cut down our own Christmas tree. So on Sunday we loaded into the car and headed up to Idaho City. We picked up our $10 pass along with a map and a list of federal tree cutting rules at the Ranger Station on Highway 21.
We decided to try our luck up Rabbit Creek Road, which also happens to be the road leading to our favorite camp spot in that part of the state. Once we finally parked the car, it took about an hour to find to our tree.
And there it is, our tree.
And there she goes! Timber!
Henry found the whole thing a bit exhausting. I guess he's not one for aimlessly wondering through the trees and snow.
Afterward, we stopped by Trudy's Kitchen for lunch. I ordered the chili cheese burger. I'd highly recommend it.

On our way home the boys fell asleep, which is always an indication of a good time.

And a Christmas tradition is born.
