short boardin'

9:49 PM

We have been busy! Stephen's parents were here over the weekend to help with the multiple house projects. I now have three recessed cans (lights stuck up in the ceiling) that show off the fireplace, a light in my soon to be walk-in closet, and an electrical-free wall for which Stephen to install a pocket door in that tiny back bathroom. I also have a recovered side chair and yards of fabric waiting for some how-to-sew-a-pillow-cover time scheduled for tomorrow evening when Stephanie will be back again to help with my never-boring-ever-evolving home.

And all on our own, we painted the old office a beautiful green. I am so in love with that room. I just sit in and stare. And I love the smell of fresh paint. I am sure it is slowly killing my brain cells, but it smells so clean and new. I love it. It will soon be ready for guests, if anyone is hankering for a visit.

But on to short boardin'.

Over the summer, while Uncle Jack was in the hospital trying not to die (I can get away with saying that because he is alive and well doing), we borrowed the Volvo. My Volvo, although I doubt anyone cares about the memories but me. So in the trunk of the Volvo was a skateboard that Stephen took out for the boys to play with--Jack we still have your skateboard, in case you were wondering.

The boys became very excited about skateboarding. Stephen, Jack, and Dylan each showed them how to do tricks (some better than others). I also tried to show them once but a neighbor came outside to let me we were all being too loud while her baby slept, putting an end to my 10:30 pm tutorial. So the boys take turns with the skateboard and practice their skills in the driveway. They are getting pretty good--Henry is very close to actually standing up.

One day Stephen pointed out a long board to them and they soon came to recognize the difference between a long board and a skateboard--only those fools think a skateboard is called a short board. Makes total sense, doesn't it? So now when we drive down the road, they shout out:

Look, that kid is short boardin'!
