something about tinkerin'

2:37 AM

The boys received a big bucket of 200 Tinker Toys for their birthday. Who doesn't love Tinker Toys? I know I fondly remember endless hours of building enjoyment, although I don't think we actually had our own Tinker Toys. Maybe at my grandparents house...um.

Stephen opened the bucket a few days after their birthday and built a really tall tower but the boys didn't show much interest. And then the Tinker Toy bucket was put on a shelf in their room where it stayed, until last week. I don't know what happened, but Tinker Toys seem to be their new favorite toy. They spent most of the weekend building things. They even took the bucket over to the Double D Ranch on Saturday night. Endless hours of fun!

I've made two observations about playing with Tinker Toys. One, my children have an innate boy skill that allows them to turn any toy into a weapon.

Two, Tinker Toys seem to bring out an irrational and immature sense of  possessiveness in both adults and children. This is, of course, expected from children but not so much from adults. However, Wyatt had to tell Dylan that it would be inappropriate for him to take the blue sticks for his Ferris wheel because Wyatt had them first! And Stephen had to fend off the boys while he built a second Ferris wheel. Stephen was unable to hide his disappointment as the boys destroyed his creation within in minutes of its completion! Oh, the agony.
