made in china

I have two adopted cousins on my mother’s side of the family. They live in the same town as us and we see them at least every two months, sometimes more. They are in kindergarten and second grade, so really, they are Henry and Wyatt’s cousins.

Side note: I have another cousin in 5th or 6th grade (I can never remember) who is also their cousin. According to the boys, she is their oldest cousin. I have five more cousins on my mom’s side, but I guess they are too old for the boys to recognize as cousins. Considering that there are no first cousins in Henry and Wyatt’s near future, I find it quite wonderful that they have these three cousins who they love so much.

But back to my story. We were having dinner with Mimi and Grandpa Jack and the rest of my family, including most of my cousins and two of Henry and Wyatt’s three cousins. My youngest cousin, Kate, was playing with some plastic toys and Henry asked her if they were made in China. China is our go-to country of foreign origin when referencing  our Made in America Challenge, so the boys believe that most plastic things come from China.

This story was actually retold to me later by Dylan, so I don’t know all the details. However, the question apparently sparked a larger conversation about how much Henry and Wyatt love plastic toys from China.

As were driving home later and talking about how much fun we all had, Henry had a story to share. It seems that during the plastic toy conversation, Kate told the boys that she and Gracie (my other cousin) were born in China.

What, born in China! How could Henry’s cousins have been born in China? That is impossible. And Henry told her so. He told her she was not born in China. He didn’t believe her. He thought she made it up. Don't worry, we set him straight.

The photos have nothing to do with the story. It's just a happy spring day!
