Maybe nine months to a year ago I read this book. We are now a free range family. Of course, like all things, I take and leave what I want from the book. I definitely advocate empowering our children by allowing them a fair amount of freedom for five year olds, which is huge for me because I am obviously paranoid.

Henry and I were driving home from the grocery store the other night and as we turned onto our street Henry saw two little boys riding bikes.

I’ve seen those kids before but I don’t know where they live.

They live on that other street.

Then why do they ride their bikes on this street?

Because that other street is bumpy. You don’t ride your bike on that other street, do you?

By then he’d hopped out of the car. He looked at the kids, looked at me and then said:

Yeah, those kids are free ranged all the way.
