11:45 PMThis farmer's egg crate is my new most favoritest thing right now. My friend Karen (mother of Gus) gave it to us last week. She has one just like it for their eggs. I think everyone should have one. It's beautiful. So beautiful that I had to blog about it.

And if you're interested, the chickens are well. We get at least two eggs a day, which isn't bad but still, somebody is not pulling their weight. Also, Cathy might think she is a rooster. Someone is crowing in the morning at about 6:45. Cock-a-doodle-doo! I am sure the neighbors are none too pleased. I caught her at it this morning (at least I think it was her) and told her to keep it down. That seemed to have put a stop to it...we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Is Kathy the black one? Because she sort of looks like a rooster to me based on my previous experience raising chickens. She is bigger than the other two. Also her comb and that hangy down thing under her throat are bigger and a brighter red than the other two. Maybe someone made a mistake when they sorted out the sexes. And if you are only getting two eggs Kathy may be the one not pulling her "or his" weight. I really don't believe hens crow.
ReplyDeleteNo, the black chicken is Elliott. She belongs to Henry. I had suggested that Elliott might be a boy but Stephen though we where getting eggs from all the chickens, just not one a day. However, we are now reconsidering Elliott's gender. We'll probably have to call the hatchery to get it all sorted out. It will be too bad if Elliott turns out to be a rooster because he'll have to go. No roosters in city limits.
