man-tastic

11:51 AM

Last weekend our favorite brood of boys were in town--the McMahons! There's actually two broods of McMahon boys: the four McMahon brothers Stephen and I know from high school and a second generation of three younger McMahon brothers. We met up with all seven McMahons on Friday night and listened to them play music in the parking lot of Papa Joe's. It was a good time.

On Saturday, Jimmy and his three boys joined us for a sleepover--also a good time. It had been two whole years since we'd seen Jim and his boys. Thankfully, all the boys hit it off right quick and spent the next 16 hours running around the yard, raising hell...it kind of reminded of two guys I used to know.

Of course, our evening started off with a backyard barbeque. I asked the little boys to smile for a picture and not surprisingly, they made funny faces and acted like fools.

After dinner, Avery found a egg in the chicken coop. It was pretty exciting for our out-of-town friends. Someone called it a golden egg.

At some point we all mosied into the front yard. Henry found a bucket of fireworks I'd bought for our 4th of July party and we decided to let the boys shoot them off. It was fun but pretty anti-climatic. The entire thing lasted about three minutes and boys basically stood, huddled together shooting confetti at each other. Stephen actually hit Henry on the cheek with something (I'll just go ahead and call it gunpowder).

The four littlest boys slept in a tent in the front yard! I know, it's pretty crazy. But they lasted all night. Wyatt did wake up at some point because a water bottle had leaked on him. Other than that, they were golden--like the egg.

The big boys had a fun night too. They stayed up until 3 am reliving their glory days (God, I love Bruce Springsteen). Anyway, they weren't quite ready to start their day at 7:30 am, especially Papa McMahon.

Justice tried some coffee. He said he liked it. He also said he like the espresso cup Stephen's grandmother gave us.

After breakfast we all played outside some more. And even though I'd washed and dried a bunch of little boy clothes the night before, they all got wet again. Rascals!

And then, sadly, it was time to say goodbye. See you next year!

Afterward, all my boys were so tired from their big night that they went back inside and promptly fell asleep.

Like I said, it was a good time.

  1. Justice warms my heart. What a little man he is! And I love how sweetly Henry is smiling in the group shot. This is probably my favorite post so far... other than the ones that have to do with me, obbbviously.

    Thanks for sharing, Hannah!

  2. I love that playing with fireworks and squirt guns requires bike helmets. I look forward to those days!
