it's beginning to look a lot like christmas

Yes, everywhere I turn this week it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

On Sunday night we made a gingerbread house. Dylan came over for dinner and stayed to help. This may or may not turn into a holiday tradition. We bought a pre-made kit from Winco but if we do this next year, Stephen would like to make his own gingerbread. I support this 100%. And regardless of what we decide to do next year, this year the boys thoroughly enjoyed building their gingerbread house, especially the coconut snow!

On Tuesday night we also got crafty making knockoff Anthropologie snow globes. We had some time to kill before the Dr. D party earlier this month so I dragged Stephen and boys to Anthro with the promise of warmth and leather sofas, which is when I first spotted the snow globes. I told Stephen we could probably make our own globes and then I promptly forgot about them. But after visiting Anthropologie twice this week, I decided that we really needed to make some globes, if only to prove to myself that Anthro goods really are overpriced (although that won’t stop me from shopping there).

Our snow globes turned out quite lovely. Maybe not as lovely as the original version, but still quite charming—as all handmade items should be. Unfortunately, the project was not as kid friendly as I had anticipated and making snow globes has been officially crossed of the list of potential traditions!

The boys gave one of the snow globes to their teacher and we spent Wednesday evening wrapping her gifts and making cards. It was precious to watch them copy her name on the cards with such determination. Wyatt messed up a letter at one point and insisted on completely starting over. They both drew elaborate pictures and spent nearly 30 minutes perfecting their cards. I think they turned out wonderfully fantastic.

And last but never least, Jack flew into Idaho last night. He was just expecting to give Stephen a call after picking up his luggage and then stand by the curb while Stephen drove over from the arrival wait area. Instead, we met him with handcrafted Christmas and welcome home signs!

With craft projects, gift giving, card making, and homecomings it’s hard not to be filled with the spirit and magic of the holiday season. Like I said, it’s beginning to look a lot Christmas.
