july 4th suburbans
12:24 PMHow was your Fourth of July celebration? Ours was low key and so different from last year.
This year we had big plans to attend a Boise Hawks baseball game, just the four of us. Last week was jam packed with outings and parties and celebrations, so we declined the handful of invitations we received for an evening at the ballpark. Except everyone else in Boise wanted to attend the game and when Stephen went to buy tickets the park was sold out!
We briefly considered going to the horse races (it's on Henry's list) or stopping by one of the parties we originally bowed out of, but in the end we decided to just stay home. And I am so glad we did!
We spent most of the day outside playing and doing yard work. I came up with an afternoon art project - thanks again to Pinterest!

Like most people, we barbecued. We each picked our entree of choice. You can easily guess who picked what! And Stephen grilled corn on the cob. I made a garden fresh salad. It was a Fourth of July feast, for sure!
After dinner we took a bike ride. A Crumrine Family Bike Ride, as we like to say! Wyatt found a centipede in the garden. Toward dusk we pulled out the fireworks. Some of our neighbors joined us, which was awesome because our fireworks were lame and theirs weren't. This year the boys were allowed to light a few fireworks themselves! Only things with a long fuse that could be thrown into the street, but still, they thought it was pretty cool.
We also enjoyed a festive dessert while lighting fireworks. Earlier in the day I made kabobs with brownies, marshmallows, blueberries, and strawberries. They boys kept calling them Suburbans. Who the hell knows why. Suburban sounds nothing like skewer, kabob, or even shish kabob - maybe it's the "s" sound? At any rate, they were cute and tasty all at the same time (Pinterest!).
The boys were in bed by 10 pm. Stephen and I sat on the deck listening to fireworks and sirens in the background. It was a good day. I enjoy spending my day with those three. I like the four of us.

Yep. It was a good day. And no one had to use their AK, ha!

Dang. This post made my morning (okay it's noon, whatever). Sounds like such a nice relaxing fun day.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It made my morning, too. Sometimes it's hard for me to stop looking at these sweet little faces and pull myself away from the computer! Did you like my skewers? :)
DeleteHaha yes! And I looooove those tin can lanterns! I clicked the link and was then compelled to dig up my old Pinterest page and get pinning! I want a warm summer evening lit by dreamy little tin can lanterns!
