on the mend
12:22 PMAfter a long weekend, Wyatt is on the road to recovery. He saw the orthopedic surgeon yesterday and will remain in a soft cast for four whole weeks! Then, on December 13th, he gets a hard cast that will cover just his wrist. I think that stays on for a couple more weeks. Much to our relief, the ortho doc said Wyatt’s wrist will heal just fine.
But as I said, it was a long weekend with sleepless nights—for me. Stephen was gone (Nana was here), so Wyatt continued to share the big bed with me and let me tell you, that baby is a bed hog! And he squirms every which way all night long. He doesn’t stop, and it is not because he is uncomfortable. He just moves. I don’t understand how it is at all restful, but he wakes up everyday bright and early so it must be. I spent two nights wide awake repositioning his arm above his head with every 30-second move—what a foolish girl (or loving mother).
And we watched TV. We rocked the TV. Henry was in heaven. I am sure I’ve turned them stupid but it was necessary, what will all my two hours of sleep.
Of course we had lots of cuddles and Nana was there to play puzzles and Hi Ho Cherry-O and the original Candy Land as opposed to the not original Candy Land. Henry spent a fair amount of time drawing tug boats and attaching yards and yards of yarn to each creation—that boy has got talent! Wyatt colored on his face with markers when he got frustrated that he could not draw with just one hand—he also has talents.
I actually took Wyatt around town with marker on his face and pasta sauce on his sling in the same sweatpants and t-shirt he had been wearing for days! I don’t care. I’m bold. Being that Henry is in fine shape, he was dressed and clean.
Oh, but I actually gave Wyatt a bath on Saturday, so he was clean for a few hours.
Stephen came home with is his first Steelhead! He was quite pleased with himself, so I am guessing he caught a good sized fish. He chopped it all up in the kitchen and froze it for time being. Lucky for Stephen I had just bleached the sink--he had a nice clean space to muck up! Animal lovers or those faint of heart look away.
And now things are pretty much back to normal (with the exception of our transition from ground beef to ground turkey, although I am sure that will become normal quiet soon). I am slightly nervous about the next four weeks. I don’t want Wyatt to hurt his wrist any further, but it is difficult to tell a four-year old to slow and Stephen let him jump in a pile of leaves yesterday, so what’s the point?
