the crafty dad

Stephen is a crafty fellow (in more ways than one). There is no doubt about it. He has some mad skills when to comes to building things with or for the boys. But I really think he outdid himself this time. This may be one of his best projects yet.

The boys are having a robot themed birthday this year. And because their actual birthday falls on a school day, they are also having a small, robot themed celebration at school. This is totally off topic, but worth mentioning because it is so ludicrous. Their teacher encourages parents to bring movies to watch for a child's birthday celebration. Well, hell no! We don't support this idea at all and we don't send our boys to preschool so that can watch even more movies than they already do (although apparently we do).

Instead, we encourage play. And violence. Always violence. So Stephen built a homemade robot pinata for all the children to beat the shit out of. And then we filled it with all things American-made. Yay for us!

Off to the classroom. Please note that Wyatt is wearing the same shirt he wore on his second birthday. Except now it doesn't fit quite the same because he is five today.

After a successful robot bashing party, we headed over to the Double D Ranch for yet another birthday celebration. Stephen and I also snuck away for an hour and managed to accomplish some multitasking (I told you he was crafty). We returned to warm pizza and cold beer--every kid's dream birthday dinner, minus the beer.

And then the boys got their presents! First, personalized books from Tia-D and then a brand new bike each! It was totally cool. I think this birthday year is off to a great start.
