just like TomTom
5:35 AMLast week I tried to make bow ties from a tutorial I found here. It was a disaster. I didn't even bother finishing. I had this brilliant idea to reuse a shirt of mine that just doesn't hang right. I spent an entire evening pulling the thing apart. I made a bow tie template but it was all wrong. My template was too small. My fabric was too silky. It was awful, but I am trying again this weekend with some stiffer fabric and a larger template. I will be successful!
But what is really important here is Henry. The boys were very excited about wearing ties, although they didn't quite understand that I was making bow ties instead of neckties. Wyatt moved on to Legos pretty quick, but Henry sat next to me (like right up in my face) and explained that he wanted a long tie, like TomTom. I said I'd see what I could do.
Sunday, the boys and I went thrifting while Stephen graded papers. As we were making our way from the furniture section to the check counter, Henry saw the ties. And as luck would have it, we found a red clip-on child size necktie! Alas, there was only one, and Wyatt ended up with a red kindergarten backpack as a consolation prize.
Henry wore that red necktie for the rest of the day. He trimmed off a loose thread and a label he didn't care for, and then he clipped it to his yellow t-shirt. The next time he travels to 2T, he wants to take the tie because TomTom wears ties (I guess he thinks they can wear ties together).
At the end of the day he wanted me to find a hanger for tie. I was making dinner and told him to throw it in his sock drawer. He told me that TomTom hangs his ties and wandered off. As I was kissing Henry goodnight, he showed me necktie. All by himself he found a hanger, clipped his tie neatly in the center, and hung it up next to his shirts. Just like TomTom.

(Henry has worn his tie everyday since we bought it, which is why his shirt is white not yellow in the photos)
