paradise point

For the last three summers we've gone with Stephen's parents to Paradise Point for family camp. It could have been four summers but I was really scared of West Nile that first summer. I've since learned to be a more relaxed parent.

This year, we drove up on Thursday evening and spent the next two days soaking up the sun and taking advantage of all the amenities Paradise Point has to offer. We also met up with some friends from the Wood River Valley, which is kind of a funny story.

Last year, I unexpectedly recognized Cathy on the beach while trying to pretend that Henry wasn't having a holy melt down for no reason whatsoever. Cathy and I worked together when Stephen and I lived in Ketchum. We have many memories of spending time with her during the six short months we lived there. And as it turns out, she has since married and had kids, too! Her children are adorable and sandwich Henry and Wyatt in age. So we've reconnected and all become fast friends.

Now that Tia D has returned to Idaho, she was able to join us at family camp this year. I think she really enjoyed herself. She even forfeited a morning of golf with Glenn to spend the day at camp trying out the ropes course (entertaining video can be seen here) and playing on the beach.

We stayed in cabins by the beach for the first time this year. There's a communal bathroom. We totally roughed it.

We had meant to pack books, namely Little House on the Prairie, but completely forgot. Luckily, the camp has large collection of children's books. And you'll never guess what I found the shelves--a copy of Little House on the Prairie! So back at the cabin, Stephen read a chapter from the book and we cozied up for our first night at camp.

Over the next two days we did all kinds of fun things. Like play on the beach behind our cabin and build sandcastles.

And practice archery. Or bows and arrows if you're Henry and Wyatt, although Grandma made sure they knew the proper name of the sport.

We also played lots of games. The boys tried Jenga, Connect Four, Twister, Uno, Checkers, and Chess for first time. I've completely forgotten how to play Checkers, so that was a bit of a disaster. I do remember how to play Chess, however, the boys were more interested in actually, physically battling with the game pieces. Whatever! A girl can only do so much.

We played on the beach some more. The boys floated around and swam in the shallow end of the pool (I think it would be called a pool). They've really taken to the water. They also took a few canoe rides but the camera stayed on the shore.

And of course, we ate! There's lots of yummy food at camp. We had steak and shrimp one night. Who doesn't love a little surf and turf? I'm telling you, the food is good. I also found a mug on the first morning that I tried to use each time I needed a mug or cup. I need a mug like it at home.

As always, it was a weekend well spent.
