This year Henry and Wyatt were ninjas for Halloween. They knew months ago that they would be ninjas and even went so far as to sketch their costumes for me. Stephen and I aren't Halloween junkies but we do prefer to make costumes rather than purchase them. There's just something special about a homemade costume that a $20 Target getup can't beat. Stephen has the boys convinced that everything homemade is better. Because of this, the boys can't even fathom why anyone would ever buy a costume. I can think of plenty of reasons, but that's beside the point.

I made their ninja jumpsuits out of fleece to be sure they stayed warm enough. Needless to say, they are probably the dorkiest ninja costumes you have ever seen--meaning they are perfect! I am actually quite proud of the jumpsuits. They are the most well-sewn pieces of clothing that I have made to date. It was a pretty big accomplishment.


Henry and Wyatt's friend Gus was also a ninja. Gus and Karen joined us for trick or treating this year and the boys hit our neighborhood street alone for the first time--also a big accomplishment! While the boys were outside trick or treating, we were inside enjoying warm bowls of Stephen's lentil soup with friends and family. Nana was there and Tia-D and her new buddy Casey. And our friend Zach who was making his way back from Utah with his buddy Chelsea was there. Zach also brought homemade salmon spread. It was to die for.


After we filled our bellies, we bundled up and headed outside for some more trick or treating. We walked through the neighborhood behind us and the boys loaded up.  Like really loaded up. Some of the homes were handing out treat bags. Can you believe that? Treat bags!


And like any other get together out at our house involving out-of-town guests, the evening ended with a beat down.
