our house: that big white credenza

7:20 AM

After I posted pictures of our living room update I realized that I have a few before and after pictures of the white credenza in the entry way! And because I know everyone is dying to learn more about that particular white credenza, I decided to share. Luck you!

We bought it last September. I found it on Craigslist for $60 and paid $40. It's 73 inches long and 29 inches tall. And it weighs a shit ton. It's solid something or other. Stephen didn't see my vision when I showed him the Craigslist posting and he thought $60 sounded like too much. Then I showed him a similar piece of furniture from Crate and Barrel listed for $1,500. The credenza was strapped on the top of the Volvo two hours later.

We decided it needed to be sanded and painted white. We originally planned to spray paint it but that was a foolish idea. It would have taken hours and a million cans of spray paint. It was probably foolish to sand it, too (which took hours and made my arms hurt). We ended up painting it with some left over white trim paint and you can see the brush strokes because we sanded it first.

But I still love it! It holds all of our winter clothes and photo albums. I've also stuck my belts and scarfs in one drawer. We have to get creative with storage solutions in this old farm house without any. The big white credenza is also home to our small collection of art books, including the Pompidou book with inappropriate pictures for kindergarten classrooms.

And that's that.
