staged
7:23 AMI read a lot of crafty mom blogs with pretty photos. All the pretty photos are set against white backdrops with crisp, sharp images of whatever crafty project these moms are explaining with superb detail for either their crafty peers or us less crafty wannabe gals. I am not sure which.
Because I am drawn to these blogs and their pretty photos, I thought I would give the whole white-backdrop-paired-with-a-step-by-step-demonstration thing a whirl. So I did and it sucked. Like majorly sucked. And it made me wonder about those crafty mom bloggers and what it must be like to stage so many family activities.
I'm not saying I won't stage an activity in the future (or that I haven't in the past) but the extent to which I staged this particular activity gave me pause. It was no fun for my children to wait for me to iron a white remnant of fabric. It was no fun for them to wait for me to display each step of the process and then take pictures. And it was no fun for me to snap at them for their impatience or inability to keep their hands off my props.
I don't really know the point of this post other than to say that I didn't like trying to create a staged demonstration of how to make ice cream a little more exciting. Although I am all about trying on different hats, my little experiment was a good reminder that I should keep it real. Like, you know, not pretend to be something I am not. And I am not woman who should be showing other women tips and tricks about ice cream.
All that said, if you want to make your ice cream a little more exciting just find some smashed mini candy bars from a birthday pinata. Mess'em up in the little blender thing. Then dump'em on some ice cream. It's a fool proof tip. Your kids will love it. Trust me. I am expert on this stuff.

Hey guess what? It's Friday! Also, Henry picked the only Snickers, which totally pissed me off because Snickers are my favorite and I had to settle for a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
