a second wedding

8:23 AM

Speaking of weddings this week, we attended our friend Jenny's wedding last Saturday. Although I was not the photographer, Jenny gave me the go-ahead to bring my camera and practice my wedding shots. I was all ready to snap pictures of the food and the decorations and the ceremony. However, once I got there I lost all interest in playing photographer.

Instead, I spent the evening visiting with old friends, making some new friends, dancing with my dad, and being silly with my mom. And because it was my birthday, I drank as much wine as I wanted! Way more fun than taking pictures of cupcakes!

And for whatever reason, I ended up with a bunch of photos of myself! This never happens. There are never photos of me, which is sometimes a bit of a disappointment. So I've gone a tad overboard with photos of myself in this post. Indulge me, please - especially because I really like the dress I was wearing!

Here's something you might not know about me: I love babies and weddings. Yep, babies and weddings make me cry without fail. I don't even have to know you or your baby. Your wedding could be completely fictional played out across the big screen and I'd still cry.

And I cried at Jenny's wedding because it was double whammy wedding with babies. Not real babies per say, but Jenny and Brett both have children from previous relationships who stood next to them during the ceremony. They wrote their own vows and Jenny's vows beautifully incorporated her love for all four children and building their family. Cue the choked sobs! Stephen even teared up.

In addition to actual ceremony, the entire evening was lovely. The wedding was held in a furniture store located in an old warehouse and guests just mingled around among the various seating areas - did you notice the bed in that second picture? Jenny and Brett greeted guests at the door and we all enjoyed drinks and appetizers for at least 45 minutes before the ceremony took place. Which was totally awesome! During the ceremony, Jenny, Brett, and their children gathered on a platform decorated with candles and surrounded by guests. So beautiful!

Afterward, it was to back to mingling, eating, and dancing! There was also a bouncy house outside for all the kids. I think I saw my kids twice all night. Genius! Obviously, I think this event was well-planned and tons-o-fun. As far as weddings go, it's probably one of the best that I've been to. So amazing that I felt the need to explain it on my blog for you all.

And because it was my birthday, we stayed out late and did a little bar hopping! Side note: twelve years ago to the day, Stephen and I kick started our relationship at another wedding. You can ask Glenn about it. He was not impressed with our display of affection on the dance floor! Thankfully, we've since learned how to behave in public.

Looks like fun, doesn't it?

We've got just one more wedding to attend this season, at the end of the month. I am sure I will cry, although no babies are involved. And I am sure I will have lots of photos to share because I love weddings.

So here's to family and friends, love, babies, birthdays, and weddings - in no particular order!

  1. Hannah! I missed the fact that it was your birthday! I would have taken the microphone from DJ Ill-literate and give you a shout out!

Thank you for all your kind words. I didn't realize my vows would bring any tears other than my own. What a magical night of love! Thank you again for everything!
