crumrine family bike ride

8:51 AM

We've been taking lots of bike rides this summer. Mostly short trips. No more than three miles round trip. We've all done pretty well on these trips. Not much whining. No wipe outs. So I decided to up the ante and suggested that we all ride our bikes to Eagle for brunch. Downtown Eagle is closer to our house than downtown Boise.

Stephen was a bit hesitant. It was hot. One of the hottest days of the summer so far. And it was already 10:30 am. And downtown Eagle is about 5 miles from our house. On a partially gravel trail. But he likes brunch just as much I do and a quick guilt trip about staying active as a family sealed the deal.

We arrived at the Wild West Bakery with rosy cheeks and parched lips. Our service was shit-tastic but the food was tasty enough. Stephen ordered lunch rather than breakfast. I was envious of his decision. I usually am when it comes to ordering food.

Afterward we cruised through the Eagle Saturday Market, which was lame. Really lame. I saw one produce stand. All the other vendors were selling their handcrafted, homemade wares. Which is cool, but not my idea of a market per say. The boys did score some flavored honey sticks and Stephen bought one ounce of some overpriced green tea. I stood under the only tent with those little mist sprayers while sweat pooled behind my knees - among other places.

And then we hightailed it home. And it was a complete disaster. The boys (namely Wyatt) cried the entire ride home. Like real sobbing cries. They were hot. They were tired. They didn't get a shaved ice. At one point we pulled over to cool off, which only caused Wyatt to cry even more. Baby!

Sounds like a good time, doesn't it?

It was halfway a good trip. It was one of those character building trips that the boys will appreciate when they're older. As for me, I'll pass on another bike ride to Eagle. I'll probably pass on all bikes that are estimated to be farther than 3 miles round trip. It's not worth the tears. We can try again next summer!
