our house: the back bathroom, part one
8:29 AMSo last week I mentioned that we are remodeling our back bathroom. I am calling it a remodel rather than an update because it's turned into a huge project. Like huge. And because it's so huge, I am going to drag out the process of remodeling the back bathroom. Meaning this isn't one more really long post about the entire experience.
Nope. It's one short post with lots of before pictures. You'll probably have to wait another week or two to see the after pictures. Mainly because we're not quite finished and I don't expect to be finished until the end of April - have I mentioned that we move slowly when it comes to home improvement projects?
Here's the run down on the back bathroom:
- It's tiny. It can't be any larger than 40 square feet. It might even be closer to 30.
- The door opens into the bathroom and you have to squeeze yourself in there in order to close the door behind you - making it difficult to help a small child wipe their butt.
- It's off the kitchen and right next to the back door.
- And it's really unwelcoming. We painted it and tore out the carpet when we moved in but that's about it.
Anyway, in typical Hannah fashion, I didn't get any true before pictures. But it's Stephen's fault. He starting ripping shit up before I could get in there with my camera. Even so, I was able to halt his demolition long enough to take a few blurry photos. You can see how small the space is and how dated the shower and vanity are.
Stephen ripped out the built-in sink. He also ripped out the toilet and the plastic stuff on the shower walls only find that the walls came down with the plastic. Needless to say, the shower walls weren't part of the scheduled demolition. They are, however, the number one reason this project got off schedule. I won't comment on the grossness we found in the shower once we started ripping things out. The pictures speak for themselves.
By the way, I really like that last picture of the shower.
Obviously, we had to replace the shower walls before we could continue with my original weekend remodel plan. Stephen slapped the walls together rather quickly and had the boys handing him new tiles the very next day.
I should also add that the shower didn't look this gross before we started the project. It was usable, although somewhat unpleasant because the drain often backed up. But it wasn't all crumbling concrete and rot. I just want you all to know that.
That's all I am sharing for now. The pictures pretty much sum up our progress from the first weekend of remodeling. This Friday will be weekend number four - yay for remodeling projects!
