our house: the back bathroom, part two
7:01 AMAs you know, we are knee deep in an extended bathroom update. A bathroom remodel if you will. You can read all about our progress up until this point here.
After Stephen gutted the back bathroom, he got to work tiling the shower. We selected 2 in. by 2 in. white ceramic tiles that are strung together in a 1ft. by 1 ft. square. At least that is my description of the tiles we bought. But I don't really know what I am talking about when it comes to materials.
At the last minute we decided to buy some glass tiles (also pre-strung) to throw in a punch of color. And I am so glad we did! Stephen and I agree that an all white shower would have ended up looking very institutional and sterile. Because my favorite color these days is grey, we went with a primarily grey tile palette.

We then decided to paint the walls a dark charcoal color to match the accent tiles and create a dramatic contrast. However, we didn't end up with charcoal. We ended with Poppy Seed, which can look either purple or blue depending on the light. For instance, it looked purple on the floor in Home Depot but blue on the top of my shoe and foot.
We are simultaneously updating the dining room and we wanted to paint the bathroom and dining room the same color for the sake of consistency. In the past, we've had a lot of crazy colors on the walls at the same time and we are moving toward a more neutral and monochromatic approach to decorating. That sounded nice, didn't it?!
Anyway, Poppy Seed looks best against the Moonshine on the living room walls. Fortunately, it also looks pretty sharp in the bathroom next to the white everything else. And of course, before we could paint we had to patch a bunch of holes and sand and re-texture and all that good stuff.

Stephen also ripped out the bathroom door. We intend to replace it with an interior barn door. I've pinned some examples - if you are curious just follow this link!

We had to replace the floor after a failed attempt to order one more box of our original laminate. Well, I guess it wasn't really a failed attempt. We just opted not to pay $90 in shipping for $20 worth of laminate. So, instead, we installed the best match we could find and called it good. Who'll notice but us, anyway.
Then we installed a new toilet, vanity, light fixture, and mirror. Oh! And I painted all the trim. And there is new trim around the door.

There are just a few finishing touches left. I want new towels and new hardware for the vanity. We also need a towel rack. I am going to hang shelves above the toilet to give us more storage space. And the door. We need a door.
Even though we're not quite finished, the boys have started brushing their teeth back here. It makes a huge difference. Huge. HUGE. I can't wait until they shower in here.
We only have six days left to pull it all together! Do you think we can do? I do - mostly because I know that Stephen hung the barn door yesterday and I bought towels and hardware over the weekend!
