twin tuesdays: one year down

8:17 AM

Twin Tuesdays are officially kaput until further notice, which probably mean until first grade starts, if at all.

And speaking of first grade, what must one accomplish before entering the first grade? Kindergarten! One must graduate from kindergarten!

On Wednesday, Henry and Wyatt's school held a graduation ceremony for both kindergarten classes with a light reception to follow. The next day the school hosted its annual end-of-the-year potluck, which is open to new and returning families. I wrote about this potluck last year. As a new family we recognized only a few faces at the potluck and the boys stayed very close to us.

Last year, when I asked Wyatt if he was ready to join all these kids, he responded that he only wanted his mama forever. I knew this moment of attachment was fleeting and that the next year he would running wild through the park with all the other children.

And I was right. This year Wyatt leaped out of the car and ran for his classmates before Stephen and I had even unlatched our seat belts (Henry would have been running with Wyatt had he not fallen asleep on the drive into town - it was a jam packed week).

So in honor of my decision to forego a comparison of my twins and their differences, I leave you with a quick reflection of their differences between the first day of kindergarten and the last. They are braver and bolder. They have developed new skills and strengths. They are carving their own identities. They don't need us as much as they once did.

Watching your children grow and gain confidence is amazing. And amazing falls short as a descriptor. It's something you feel in your chest. In your heart. It's something that brings happy tears and big sighs, which bring us back to the graduation ceremony and a nifty little video I made using this tutorial. Here's looking forward to first grade!

PS: Henry loves this song right now. I had to buy it from iTunes to make the video, marking my very first iTunes purchase ever!
